==Schedule==
====Proposal Date====
Date this proposal was posted to the membership and a request for a vote date was sent to the Board.

'''3/26/26'''

====Member Input====
Does the Sponsor choose to open the language of the vote for changes due to member input? (optional and can be modified at any time)

'''[ ] YES [X] NO'''

====Vote Announcement and Beginning Date of the Discussion Period====
The announcement date of the vote proposal is the beginning date of the seven-day (minimum) posting and Member discussion period. (Certain exceptional vote types have longer discussion periods. Check the Bylaws if you are unsure.) If the Sponsor has chosen to include member input, suggested edits can be made in a shared document or other collaborative vehicle until the language is locked. The sponsor can stop taking suggestions at any time.

====Language Lock Date and Start of Voting====
Five days prior to the Day of the Vote, the vote language is locked, all edits are frozen, and the language of the vote is converted to a pdf file. Ballots that include the pdf are sent to the Membership, and electronic voting begins. Note that the minimum discussion period of seven days leaves only two days for changes before the lock takes place.

====Day of the Vote====
Date the Board has assigned for the vote. The Day of the Vote is the day the vote closes.

Attempt 1:

==Background==
On January 28th, 2025, PS:1 ran a member vote, the [[Club Vote]] establishing a "Club" structure, creating a Committee for Club Oversight (CCO) and introducing new roles including Club Hosts and Club Sponsors. Under this structure, certain individuals were granted free memberships tied to their club leadership roles.

In the year following the vote, concerns have been raised that the Club structure as passed is unnecessarily complex and opaque, and that it creates a pathway for directing organizational resources, including free memberships, to specific individuals in ways that lack the transparency expected of PS:1's normal decision-making processes.

This proposal seeks to repeal the Club Vote in full and move to a simpler model for supporting community-building work at PS:1, one that mirrors the Area Host structure already familiar to the membership, and routes support through existing mechanisms like Work in Lieu of Dues (W.I.L.D.) volunteer positions and short-term scholarships where appropriate.

Members who received free memberships under the Club Vote will be granted one month of continued membership while the Board evaluates whether appropriate W.I.L.D. positions exist for them.

== Wait, isn't there another club vote right now? ==
Yes. There is a competing vote titled [[Club Vote 2026]] being run at the moment, which seeks to amend the club vote language and give out some more free memberships. The sponsors of this vote think the original club vote, and this amendment, are both too opaque and convoluted. Our belief is that the membership and the organization is better served by a volunteer structure consistent with the rest of the volunteer structure at PS:1.

==Synopsis==
This vote repeals the Club Vote from January 28th, 2025, rendering all of its provisions null and void. It grants one month of continued membership to any member currently receiving a free membership under the Club Vote, providing continuity while the Board determines whether W.I.L.D. volunteer positions are appropriate for those individuals.

The sponsor's intent, following a successful repeal is to propose, via Board vote, the creation of a Community Building Area that consolidates the functions currently distributed across the CCO, MMT, and PR. This Area would be governed by an appointed Area Host and evaluated by the same standard applied to all other Area Hosts at PS:1. Budget currently allocated to the CCO would transfer to the new Area.

==Language of the Vote==
The membership of Pumping Station: One, NFP votes to repeal the "Club Vote" from January 28th, 2025, render all portions of it null and void, allow the board to transfer any allocated budget to a newly created Community Building Area, and grant those members granted free memberships under the Club Vote one month of continued membership, while the board determines if there are appropriate Work in Lieu of Dues (W.I.L.D.) volunteer positions for them.

==Footnotes==
This vote was written in 2026 by[[User:jcmertz | Joe 'theJuggler' Mertz]] in collaboration with Claude AI for proofreading and clarity.

== Foreword ==
Our current network topology is the legacy of my early days of learning networking and best practices. In the 8 years since I've become CTO, I've learned many things. While our networking config has worked up until now, it leaves a lot to be desired. - Sky, CTO in 2026.

== Summary ==

=== Project Team ===
* Sky: "Project Manager" and whatever else.
* Cara: Technical Lead
* James: Physical Infrastructure

=== Where We Are ===
The PS:One network is kinda wonky. We have a bunch of subnets that were setup with the naming convention 10.[VLAN-ID].X.X. While this works, it is not best practice and a bit silly looking. We're relying on Active Directory for DNS and DHCP on a lot of critical networks. This creates a bootstrap issue with the network where things don't work until AD has booted. Having AD play such a critical role in our network when most of our members are familiar with Linux does not make sense and creates a poor experience.

=== Where We're Going ===
Our 2026 network re-architecture project has three major goals and a few secondary goals:

Major Goals:

# VLAN / DHCP Rework
## VLANs will be formatted with the naming convention '''10.19.[VLAN-ID].X''' with 19 being PS:One's site ID (35'''19''')
## DHCP will be fully taken away from Active Directory and migrated to the Unifi equipment.
## Stretch goal: DHCP managed by IaC (infrastructure-as-code) solution.
# DNS Rework
## DNS will be taken away from Active Directory on most VLANs.
## Active Directory will continue manage DNS on the VLAN where space computers reside since that's what AD likes.
## AD DNS will be replaced with another solution. Ideally an IaC (infrastructure-as-code) managed solution that is easier for the membership to access and understand.
# AD Isolation
## Active Directory will be isolated to a VLAN that is separate from other space infrastructure.

Secondary Goals:

# Migrate from UXG-Pro to UDM-Pro/Max
## Goal is to save $360/y on cloud controller + enable SSO
## Unifi local hosted platform has significantly stabilized since leaving our last on-prem controller
# Expand networking capacity at central IDF location
# Install fiber-interconnects to all IDFs
# Add UPSes/surge protection to all IDFs

==== New VLANs ====

The VLANs are staying mostly the same. The major move is going to be re-IPing the subnets and changing which service has responsibility for network services on each VLAN.

== Overview ==

The Electronics area has a teleconferencing system installed in it. Very roughly, it consists of a Shure ceiling microphone, Biamp digital signal processor (DSP), Logitech Rally camera, and other assorted accessories. This provides a high-quality camera and microphone available over USB to a dedicated computer used for video conferencing. This system is platform-agnostic, so it can be used with Discord, Zoom, Teams, Webex, etc.

This page contains more technical documentation on the system, user documentation will be stored somewhere else once we make it!
== How to Use ==
TBD!

== Diagram ==

== Audio ==
=== Ceiling Microphone ===
The ceiling microphone is a Shure MXA910. It provides 8 individual lobes available via Dante, powered by PoE. It has two separate IPs, one for the Dante audio stream and one for control/management; however they both ride over the one Ethernet connection to the switch.

<nowiki>**</nowiki> THESE NEED TO BE RE-IP'ED **

* Control IP: 10.100.15.5/26
* Dante IP: 10.100.15.6/26
* Switchport: 30

==== Lobe Layout ====
Top-down view of each capture area from the ceiling microphone. For reference, the projector screen would be at the bottom of the image near lobe 8, and the soldering stations near the windows are at the end of lobe 6.

Currently lobe 1 is disabled as it picks up too much noise from the arts area.

[[File:Lobe Layout.png|frameless|766x766px]]

=== Digital Signal Processor ===
A Biamp Tesira Server-IO is used as the DSP. It provides various effects and processing to the incoming audio streams, and combines them for the main output to the conferencing computer.

The Tesira has two discrete network connections - one for Dante, and one for control. Unlike the ceiling mic, they are on separate RJ-45 connectors.

<nowiki>**</nowiki> THESE NEED TO BE RE-IP'ED **

* Control IP: 10.100.15.68 / switchport 32
* Dante IP: 10.100.15.5 / switchport 31

DSP file can be found at [PROVIDE AFTER CX]

==== Effects ====
The DSP provides:

* EQ and compression for all 8 ceiling microphone lobes
* Acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) for all incoming microphones. This will "subtract" the audio getting sent through the speakers in the room from the microphones to prevent remote participants from hearing themselves speak through the room.
* Gated mixer to only allow up to two microphone lobes to be activated at once (possible # lobes active == [0-2]). Only lobes with a strong enough signal will be allowed in.

==== Connections ====
The audio connections on the rear of the Tesira follow a standard color code. Green is audio input, orange is AEC input, and black is audio output.

* Port 1-1: AEC Ref L (from projector)
* Port 1-2: AEC Ref R (from projector)
* Ports 1-3 thru 2-4: Reserved (internal acoustic echo cancellation engine is used for ceiling microphone)
* Other Ports: Unused
* Port 10-1: To PC L
* Port 10-2: To PC R

== Camera ==
A video feed is provided by a Logitech Rally camera using the Logitech power/data combiner (12v power + USB 3 over USB-C).

== Video ==
Video distribution is handled by a set of Crestron DM-NVX-350's. These can encode/decode 4k60 HDMI over Ethernet with extremely minimal latency/quality degradation. Two units are currently deployed (one in the server closet, and one at the projector) with one more on order for the table. Theoretically if more units were acquired we could distribute video across the whole space but currently there's no real use to that.

The NVX units have a REST API (https://sdkcon78221.crestron.com/sdk/DM_NVX_REST_API/Content/Topics/Home.htm) and a HomeAssistant integration is being worked on so the routing can be handled through there.

=== Server Room ===
* HDMI 1: NUC

=Scholarships=
This policy went into effect July 30, 2019 via a [[Scholarship Policy 2019 Vote Proposal|vote of the membership]], and was subsequently updated and expanded with the passing of the [[Scholarship Policy Update 2021]] vote.

==Application Process==

'''To apply for a Pumping Station: One scholarship, please follow the link to fill out our [https://tinyurl.com/y3dc3fnx application form.]'''

Scholarships are approved for 6-month cycles with decisions being sent to candidates by the 1st Wednesday of December and June. If accepted, applicants will have 2 weeks to accept or request to defer their scholarship (and attend a member meeting to join PS1 and receive an ID if not already a member.) The scholarship will terminate 6 months after accepting the scholarship and receiving a valid ID check, if applicable. This application process is new and subject to change as we hope to continue optimizing this process. Please check back on this page for the most up-to-date information.

== Policy Language ==

Consistent with our mission, PS1 offers Scholarships to individuals that might not otherwise be able to participate due to financial constraints, or who seek membership for the purposes of education or community service.

===Financial & Logistical Considerations===

A distinct budget for scholarships at PS1 shall be created to be voted upon with other budget items for that year’s annual budget. All money that is not used in the scholarship fund will be returned to general PS1 funds to be redistributed in the annual budget vote for the upcoming year.

Scholarships are to occur on a semiannual application cycle for a smooth on-boarding process for scholarship recipients. Scholarships are approved for 6-month cycles with decisions being sent to candidates by the 1st Wednesday of December and June. All scholarships will have an option to renew via reapplication for an additional 6 months totaling a limit of 12 months within two calendar years. Former scholarship recipients may be considered again in the following year, or for the second scholarship term within the same year if there are insufficient applications to saturate the scholarship budget for the upcoming term.

Scholarship selections will be guided by the specifics of the selection criteria that are generally laid out in this document. The selection process may be delegated to other members of PS1 in good standing, provided that scholarship recipients are ultimately reviewed and voted on by the Board of Directors.

The Scholarship budget may also receive additional funding from donors in addition to what is voted upon in the annual budget. Donor funding may be added to the general scholarship pool, or as a separate scholarship designed to support particular applicants (e.g. a scholarship specifically for welders) provided those scholarships fit the goals and objectives of Pumping Station: One and are approved by the Board of Directors. All sponsored scholarship types should be made available for review by the membership, including those that are temporary, although donors and recipients may remain anonymous. Funds provided by donors for the purpose of supporting scholarships will be added to the general pool of Scholarship funding unless otherwise specified.

===Terms===

“Scholarships per month” refers to a singular instance of waived dues for that month’s membership. When someone receives a scholarship per semiannual term, they are receiving 6-months worth of scholarships to be used within that term. Modifications to an assigned scholarship term should be directed to the scholarship officer.

===Limitations===

The Board of Directors reserves the right to provide scholarships to the extent the Board or other designated volunteers are currently able to successfully manage and only to those applicants they deem to meet the criteria, regardless of availability. The Board of Directors reserves the right to revoke scholarships if the recipient violates the Membership agreement, does not fulfill the requirements of their scholarship, or does not respond to Board correspondence in a timely fashion regarding pertinent issues pertaining to their scholarship. The Board will work to the best of their ability to address issues for scholarship recipients with clarity and in a timely fashion. Scholarships are not transferable.

===Selection Criteria===

Successful applicants should meet one the following conditions:

* Applicant can demonstrate financial need
** This may be demonstrated by checking off a declaration in the scholarship application that PS1 dues would render the applicant unable to join PS1 without a scholarship
* Applicant demonstrates that their PS1 membership will be used for the purposes of education or community service

== Foreword ==
Our current network topology is the legacy of my early days of learning networking and best practices. In the 8 years since I've become CTO, I've learned many things. While our networking config has worked up until now, it leaves a lot to be desired. - Sky, CTO in 2026.

== Summary ==

=== Where We Are ===
The PS:One network is kinda wonky.

=== Where We're Going ===

Please see [[UniFi Controller]] for extended configuration information. USG is managed from controller interface.

Port configuration is as follows:

* LAN Port 1
** Connected to [[UniFi 48 Port Switch]] on port 32, will be switched to port 1 or 48.
* LAN Port 2
** Disconnected. May be used in the future to service member rack.

* WAN Port 1
** Connected to primary internet connection, currently the Motorola SURFboard SB6120 on top of the [[Dell PS 38S Server Rack]]
* WAN Port 2
** Disconnected. Will be used in the future for a failover/backup internet connection.

== Enable IPv6 Support ==

IPv6 support is in progress. [https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005868927-UniFi-How-to-Implement-IPv6-with-DHCPv6-and-Prefix-Delegation-on-USG Documentation to enable this is found here.]

== Initial Setup ==

[https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/236281367-UniFi-How-to-Adopt-a-USG-into-an-Existing-Network Instructions for adpoting a USG Pro can be found here]

=== Adpoting a USG Pro into an existing network ===

NOTE: This has been tailored for PS:1's existing network setup.

1. Connect a computer into the LAN NIC (LAN port 1) of the USG. It will obtain a 192.168.1.x IP from DHCP.

2. SSH into 192.168.1.1 using username and password combination of ubnt / ubnt.

3. For this example, the controller is on 10.100.0.9/20, so let's change the USG’s LAN IP to 10.100.0.1. Choose an available IP within the subnet of the local controller.

4. In the SSH session, run the following (Since this is a USG Pro, eth1 has been replaced with eth0 per Ubiquiti instructions):

* configure
* set interfaces ethernet eth0 address 10.100.0.1/20
* delete interfaces ethernet eth0 address 192.168.1.1/24
* commit

Now the USG’s LAN IP is 10.100.0.1/20. The SSH session will drop.

=== Controller Configuration ===

In order for the USG to work properly, you must correctly configure the appropriate settings in the UniFi Controller GUI located at https://10.0.0.9:8443 or via https://unifi.ubnt.com/

Under "Settings" > "Networks", select edit on the network named "LAN".

The following settings should be configured as such:

* Name
** LAN
* Purpose
** Corporate
Due to performance issues and rising costs, the Tech Team has decided to move the wiki back on-prem. It was originally moved off-prem due to the lack of time to maintain the system. With a fully established tech team, we are better positioned to maintain this system internally, save money while doing so, and make material improvements to how the wiki operates.

* Cons / Risks
** Relies on site uptime (internet, VMs)
** Internal responsibility for maintenance / updates / backups
* Pros / Benefits
** Full control over wiki software
** Empowered to fix performance issues and install plugins/updates
** Additional flexibility to switch wiki software in the future
The Electronics area has a teleconferencing system installed in it. Very roughly, it consists of a Shure ceiling microphone, Biamp digital signal processor (DSP), Logitech Rally camera, and other assorted accessories. This provides a high-quality camera and microphone available over USB to a dedicated computer used for video conferencing. This system is platform-agnostic, so it can be used with Discord, Zoom, Teams, Webex, etc.
The ceiling microphone is a Shure MXA910. It provides 8 individual lobes available via Dante, powered by PoE. It has two separate IPs, one for the Dante audio stream and one for control/management; however they both ride over the one Ethernet connection to the switch.

* Control IP: 10.100.15.5/26
* Dante IP: 10.100.15.6/26
* Switchport: 30

=== Digital Signal Processor ===

* Control IP: 10.100.15.68 / switchport 32
* Dante IP: 10.100.15.5 / switchport 31

DSP file can be found at [PROVIDE AFTER CX]

==== Effects ====

==== Connections ====

* Other Ports: Unused
* Port 10-1: To PC L
* Port 10-2: To PC R

== Video ==
Camera/video is provided by a Logitech Rally camera using the Logitech power/data combiner (12v power + USB 3 over USB-C).

== Computer ==
Powered by an Intel NUC on permanent loan from [[User:Folf]], located in the [[Server Room]]

Specs:

* Model: NUC7i3BNH
* CPU: i3-7100U
* RAM: 4GB
* Storage: 512GB M.2
* OS: Windows 11
