== Foreword ==
Our current network topology is the legacy of my early days of learning networking and best practices. In the 8 years since I've become CTO, I've learned many things. While our networking config has worked up until now, it leaves a lot to be desired. - Sky, CTO in 2026.

== Summary ==

=== Project Team ===
* Sky: "Project Manager" and whatever else.
* Cara: Technical Lead
* James: Physical Infrastructure

=== Where We Are ===
The PS:One network is kinda wonky. We have a bunch of subnets that were setup with the naming convention 10.[VLAN-ID].X.X. While this works, it is not best practice and a bit silly looking. We're relying on Active Directory for DNS and DHCP on a lot of critical networks. This creates a bootstrap issue with the network where things don't work until AD has booted. Having AD play such a critical role in our network when most of our members are familiar with Linux does not make sense and creates a poor experience.

=== Where We're Going ===
Our 2026 network re-architecture project has three major goals and a few secondary goals:

Major Goals:

# VLAN / DHCP Rework
## VLANs will be formatted with the naming convention '''10.19.[VLAN-ID].X''' with 19 being PS:One's site ID (35'''19''')
## DHCP will be fully taken away from Active Directory and migrated to the Unifi equipment.
## Stretch goal: DHCP managed by IaC (infrastructure-as-code) solution.
# DNS Rework
## DNS will be taken away from Active Directory on most VLANs.
## Active Directory will continue manage DNS on the VLAN where space computers reside since that's what AD likes.
## AD DNS will be replaced with another solution. Ideally an IaC (infrastructure-as-code) managed solution that is easier for the membership to access and understand.
# AD Isolation
## Active Directory will be isolated to a VLAN that is separate from other space infrastructure.
# Tune access point distribution and radio configuration

Secondary Goals:

# Migrate from UXG-Pro to UDM-Pro/Max
## Goal is to save $360/y on cloud controller + enable SSO
## Unifi local hosted platform has significantly stabilized since leaving our last on-prem controller
# Expand networking capacity at central IDF location
# Install fiber-interconnects to all IDFs
# Add UPSes/surge protection to all IDFs

==== New VLANs ====

The VLANs are staying mostly the same. The major move is going to be re-IPing the subnets and changing which service has responsibility for network services on each VLAN.
If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can write your User ID instead. '''

'''Do not remove names from this list, or labels on shelves, or any items from shelves. If you believe a shelf should be open but ANY of those are present, contact info@pumpingstationone.org and ask for an audit.'''
== Catwalk Shelf Registry ==

''' -Alpha Alpha designations refer to mini shelves used for PS1 official projects '''

The catwalk is where some of our [[member leased server Systems]] infrastructure are located. Additionally, member shelves are on the catwalk.

'''Please do not store items on the catwalk, except on member shelves. Loose items will be ticketed'''

On the catwalk, numbering starts with the upper left shelf and goes down, then across.
A quirk of these hosts is that they need <code>nomodeset</code> applied to their kernel command line. This is most easily done in the installer's GRUB menu. When installing with Ventoy, an additional edit must be made to the first-boot kernel command line to remove <code>rdinit=/vtoy/vtoy</code>, otherwise the initramfs will kernel panic.
The member Proxmox cluster consists of qty 3 Supermicro servers located in RU ??-?? of member rack 1. Each server is labelled with its hostname. Each physical host has approx. 128GB RAM and 4TB of logical storage (zRAID1). The CPU is an Intel Xeon E5-2620 @ 2.6GHz, with 24 cores.
==== Install PVE9 ====

==== Supporting Infrastructure ====
What supporting infrastructure is needed for this cluster? A separate L2 network? Separate L2 for the PVE management interface? DHCP/DNS?

Muirrum: VLAN table

== Foreword ==
Our current network topology is the legacy of my early days of learning networking and best practices. In the 8 years since I've become CTO, I've learned many things. While our networking config has worked up until now, it leaves a lot to be desired. - Sky, CTO in 2026.

== Summary ==

=== Where We Are ===
The PS:One network is kinda wonky.

=== Where We're Going ===

Secondary Goals:

# Migrate from UXG-Pro to UDM-Pro/Max
## Goal is to save $360/y on cloud controller + enable SSO
## Unifi local hosted platform has significantly stabilized since leaving our last on-prem controller
# Expand networking capacity at central IDF location
# Install fiber-interconnects to all IDFs
# Add UPSes/surge protection to all IDFs

==== New VLANs ====

The VLANs are staying mostly the same. The major move is going to be re-IPing the subnets and changing which service has responsibility for network services on each VLAN.
{| class="wikitable"

Muirrum: /* To-Do */please make the room not smell like that :(

== To-Do ==
* Can room be converted to darkroom (i.e any objections to the conversion)
* Verify room ventilation, power, plumbing
** Room has power and plumbing which should be adequate.
** Ventilation is unclear. There is an hvac register in the ceiling but no switch for a fan. Appears to be similar ventilation scheme as the bathroom sharing the wall. Depending on flow path, we can put a fan on the darkroom register which should provide enough ventilation.
*** I tried taking the register off to see where the duct leads, but it would not budge even after taking the screws out.
* Inspect existing enlarger, identify repairs + addtl equipment needed (Omega D3 model I think)
** Existing enlarger is in pretty good shape. Missing a few parts necessary for operations.
*** The enlarger is missing the mount for the return spring at the top of the chassis and the lifting crank which would be on the right hand side.
*** The bellows, condenser lens, and enlarger lens all look to be in good shape. I didn't see any light leaks from the bellows when I was testing everything.
* The enlarger came with two sets of negative holders (4x5 (this bad boy can do large format!!!) and 6x6 (medium format). There was also one side of a holder for 6x4.5 (medium format) which was made of cardboard. Other holders can be bought or made very easily.
* Check for and patch light leaks
** The door obviously needs some work. The easiest solution I can think of is blackout curtains on the outside of the door and making sure the fluorescent fixture right in front of the door stays off.
* Storage plan (Chemistry, paper safe, tools)
** Disposal plan for chemistry
*
*
* Design for space
** See screenshots below
* Fix whatever is causing the nasty smell

== Current Plan ==
== Debian ==

PS:1's Linux distribution of choice is Debian. Eventually, all PS:1 Linux infrastructure components should be converted to Debian Trixie. Currently, a mix of CentOS 6, CentOS 7, Rocky 9, and Debian is used. End-of-life systems should be prioritized higher than currently in support systems.

=== Netboot ===

One of the things that I (Cara) would like a lot is a PXE netboot image to use to quickly stand up new VMs, and reimage old ones as needed. The requirements for a Debian netboot image are:

# Extracted [https://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/trixie/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/netboot.tar.gz netboot.tar.gz] in a TFTP server
# Complete [https://ipxe.org iPXE] script, maybe allowing for selecting different tools like a live debugging OS for physical machines?
# Configuration on the DHCP server to serve a chainload payload to legacy PXE clients, and the real iPXE script for iPXE clients
# Ideally, a Debian preseed file to completely automate the installation of Debian once selected

In theory it's possible to PXE boot a Windows installtion with SCCM and iPXE, but I (Cara) have no experience with SCCM so I'm not focusing on it for now.

== IPAM/Infrastructure Management ==

This project should investigate tools like Nautobot to define and manage IT infrastructure.
