Nick Prorok is a member pumping station one.

At the beginning of March I proposed 5 votes that I thought would improve pumpingstation: one. After 2 weeks of discussion, it was apparent that a few members STRONGLY DISAGREED with the premises of every single vote. I took their input into consideration and compromised where I was willing. In the end, the members are supposed to vote anyway, so if they were bad ideas, the members could always vote no.

Many individuals approached me on line from PS1 to try to persuade me to not propose my votes, or to tell me why they disagreed.

AROUND 3-15-20, I was removed from the online communication platforms for my opinions by the admins and the president of PS1 FILED a complaint against me to the Dispute resolution committee.

The DRC requested a meeting with me via online, to which I agreed on the conditions that they told me what specifically I was being accused of and what the scope of their decision was going to be after we meet. The DRC refused to provide me any specific thing I did or said that warranted the meeting, so I informed them that I thought it was in my best interest to not attend.

2 board members are on the DRC, so I can appeal to the board about the DRC's decision...

The DRC met to discuss your case on March 31, 2020 in your absence after you informed us in writing that you preferred not to attend. While it was your right not to attend, this deprived us of the opportunity to obtain your input. After considering the evidence from several cases presented to the DRC, we have determined to take the following course of action:

You will be suspended from all PS1 online forums (Google Groups, Discourse, and Slack) for 4 months, effective immediately through August 7, 2020.

You are hereby ordered to cease and desist emailing fellow PS:1 members at their personal email addresses for reasons outside the scope of your authorization privileges.

You will be placed on probation for a period of 4 months, effective when PS:1 reopens. The terms of probation at PS1 are outlined below.

The DRC will be carefully monitoring your behavior within the space and interactions with other members. Submissions made to the DRC during this time in which you are the respondent that are deemed to be valid for investigation may result in suspension from the space, and all online forums, of up to 120 days.

The following incidents informed our course of action in response to cases submitted to the DRC, and how they relate to the Membership Agreement to which you agreed upon becoming a member of PS:1.

1) Membership Agreement, section 2.6: “Member Conduct. Demonstrated inability to treat any person, member, organization, or facility with respect.”

From Max Rashes, Secretary of PS1: "Please keep in mind that we are all volunteers who have limited bandwidth. Saying 'If the secretary would do his job' on digital spaces is very demoralizing and makes it much harder for me to do my job effectively."

From Matt Dinning: “You [sic] slack post compounded your Google Groups posts and made me feel unsafe coming to the space, because of you, Nick.”

From Nathan Upchurch: “I thought this sort of spicy content was reserved for the Google group? I felt safe here :(“

From Luke Wilk: “Nic [sic], why the fuck I'm getting unsolicited mails from you, addressed also to ton of other HS members? This shit must stop now. Period.”

Additional violations of the Member Conduct portion of the Membership Agreement are cited below:

On Sunday, 3/15/2020: Use of the #Volunteers channel on Slack for matters not in accordance with the stated purpose of the channel, despite being asked to refrain from doing so.

On 3/31/2020: Inappropriate use of member emails for a “mailing list for covid” that was not approved by the Board of Directors, and did not represent an official communication from PS:1.

Posting of an official DRC communication to the private Google Groups page despite a request, sent in all official communication from the DRC, to maintain discreteness.

It is our sincere hope that during your time away from PS1 forums that you will reflect on your language, the way you choose to communicate your ideas, and your online behavior that led us all to this point. We value your interest in ensuring a sustainable future for PS:1, and your potential to inform our authorization processes. The Board of Directors has formed committees whose tasks are aimed directly at these present and future challenges, and you were offered the chance to join them.

We would like to remind you that it is within your rights to appeal our decision to the Board of Directors. If you wish to do so, you may send a message to board@pumpingstationone.org indicating that you would like to appeal the outcome of a DRC case. At that point, the Board will communicate with us, deliberate and make a judgement as they see fit. Decisions rendered by the Board are final; your suspension from the online forums remains in effect during the appeal process.

Hi David,

So these are all complaints brought against me prior to the meeting that you wouldn't tell me what we were meeting for exactly and what decisions you were going to make?

I am very confused at the moment.

Within the law and in good taste, I will do what I am able to find a resolution to being suspended for 4 months for these bogus reasons. And I have the time since I am not fully employed, even when there is no COVID.

We choose to hire Nicholas Prorok as the Project Manager of "Pumping Station: One Point One", who will create a project charter, identify goals, track expenses, organize volunteers and hire contractors. The project manager will provide periodic reports to the board. The project manager will consult with the membership, area hosts, board and committees when appropriate.

It is important that all the members and anyone who enters Pumping Station: One is not exposed to unnecessary harm. The ventilation in the CNC room is inadequate. Members use volatile organic compounds and other hazardous chemicals without proper ventilation. The wood shop is right next to the hot metals areas. These are all things that may be of concern for potential fire hazards and things of that nature, and we should make sure that Pumping Station: One is provided the safest environment possible for its members. It is an iPod dock attached to a Roomba. What I had in mind was something similar to that, with a few modifications for the Internet of Things. Many cleaning robots it seems already have apps that go along with them. It would be an interactive part of our Makerspace. I'm thinking it could be attached to an Alexa and a Spotify account.

My original vote was titled "Vote to Purchase Automatic Space Cleaner", but I changed the name to more accurately represent what will be purchased. This robot can only survive if people clean up after themselves. Then, the robot can do that little extra cleaning. CLEAN IS GOOD. The vote has been renamed Vote to Purchase Robotic Floor Vacuum.

This is my project for pumping station one and everyone will benefit from it. The minimum involvement required by any member is to clean up after yourself. Argue against cleaning up after yourself if you must.... but seriously.

The building called Pumping Station: One is open to the public (human beings) every Tuesday night. Consider the predicament we would be in if a Roomba couldn't survive in the same space as the public.

I'd like to move away from the model of "make all the mess you want, someone else will clean it". It is a nice piece of equipment though. Just not inline with the goal of this purchase.

If the woodshop is busy, than that's not the best time for dj roomba to be cleaning the floor. I'm positive that the pet vacuum can announce its presence loud enough to be seen without being obnoxiously distracting.

Nobody is perfect. And that's why expecting total cleanliness from members is unrealistic. Pet Mascot DJ Roomba comes in after a member has already cleaned up any mess they created, if they created one at all.

Member points can be earned for emptying the Roomba and having other positive interactions with it. Members would be able to swipe their RFIDs whenever they pass our pet DJ Roomba. The daily comings and goings of the pet mascot DJ Roomba will be recorded and sent to an online blog and everyone anywhere can see where our beloved pet robot is and check on its well being. The GPS tracker serves as a theft deterrent since its location will be picked up by satellite and it will serve as a beacon to whoever might be looking saying "Pumping Station: One pet DJ Roomba is here,"

Pumping Station: One could benefit from some extra care and attention in the form of cleanliness. There are so many different interests, hobbies and skills at PS1, but one thing that we all have in common is the benefit we could gain from a cleaner space and a shared object to invest in. This vote is for the purchase of a "Roomba" or similar automatic floor cleaner. In addition, this vote includes the purchase of various sensors and technologies for the Internet of Things. The goal would be for anyone in the world to be able to check to see "how the robot is doing".

Various sensors and technologies would include [open for discussion]:

===Clean Up===
* Please allot time for your project to clean up after yourselves. Throw away scrap, and store usable materials in the file cabinet.
* Empty Laser Engraver catch trays.
* Please return all tools from where you found them.
* Empty the trash when it is full

===Conserving Energy===
* Turn off the exhaust after a project. Do not cycle the exhaust rapidly.
* Turn off the Lights and A/C at the end of the day.
* Turn off 3D printers when prints are done.

===Storage===
* There is absolutely no member storage in the CNC area. Please clean up all projects when you are done. Left over projects without any documentation will be thrown away.

== Safety ==

Lasers are known to cause fire. If you leave your laser unattended, anyone else SHOULD halt or cancel it immediately, no questions asked, no excuses. DO not pass go, do not collect $200, go to laser jail.
Lasers are more liable to cause fire if the material is too thick, has air pockets in it (like multi-layer cardboard)
Lasers can cause toxic fumes if they are used with unsafe materials. There's a page of safe and unsafe materials linked from each laser's wiki page, and that is covered in authorizations.
There is one halon fire extinguisher in the CNC room that is first choice for putting out fires associated with the laser cutters.
As long as the lids are closed, you do not need to wear additional protective eye wear to operate the lasers.
Don't mess with the safety interlocks that detect if the lid is closed.
Do not ever laser humans or animals.

== Supplies ==

Supplies are generally not provided. There are some PS1-owned bits in the drawer for the ShopBot, but you may wish to purchase your own bits if you want to be confident that you'll have a good, sharp bit of the appropriate size for your project. If you break a shop-owned bit, please tell the area host and post a note to the wiki and Google group.

There is often some common-use filament available for the TAZ3, AO-100 or Replicator 3D printers, but you may also used your own if you want to be confident that you'll have enough high-quality filament for your project. Filament can be purchased at MicroCenter and other retailers for about $20 per spool. Filament can be purchased for the Cube printer for about $100 per cartridge.

All machines, including the vinyl cutter and large format printers, should have information about their consumables listed on their respective wiki page.

There is a donation box next to the Cube printer for filament; suggested donation for Cube filament is 30 cents per gram.

== Description ==
A recent model Knee Mill made by the Bridgeport company. This is the gold-standard small shop manual milling machine in the US. Most other mills of the same size are direct copies of the bridgeport design. This particular machine is a Series I, J-head with a mechanical variable speed drive. The machine has a power quill feed built into the head, in addition to the additional equipment listed below. This machine is capable of facing, surfacing, drilling and slotting in materials ranging from plastics to mild steel. Harder metals may be cut if special cutters and coolant are available. This machine is not equipped with CNC controls, consequently curved paths are limited to circular arcs. These can be cut on pieces that can be mounted on the 8" rotary table or approximated to a desired precision using the simple or smooth arc functions of the DRO.

The X-axis handle (opposite the power feed) is missing the spring.

The handle for the Z-axis front lock has snapped off. The rabbit hole is [http://www.icai-online.com/knee-lock-shaft-assembly.html deeper than expected], or may just be a handle that can be removed.

The screw to prevent collets from rotating in the spindle is frequently removed, as some collets won't fit with it in there and it can cause bigger problems if it shears off. This won't be repaired.

The power feed appears to be leaking oil. Parts that we should consider replacing:

== About ==

The BOSS LS-3655 is an industrial CO2 laser engraver with a 36" x 55" bed, supporting over-sized material pass-thru on four sides and up to 7 inches of table depth. Originally shipped with 100W tube, but that has been replaced with 150W tube in May, 2017.

== Status ==

* (2017/05/20) 150W Tube & Power Supply installed. Alignment & focusing pending.
* (2017/06/12) The laser has been aligned and focused. 2" Laser lens focal depth set to 5.1mm.

== Usage Policy ==

The laser cutter is easily one of the most used machines at PS1. Due to this demand we request the cooperation of all members to share the laser cutter and associated computer. First and foremost, the practice "being excellent" should be observed at all times; respect yourself, other members, and the equipment. This is a usage policy so that everyone can use the laser:

* Any user not actively test cutting or cutting will cede the computer and laser to the next person waiting in line, as soon as that waiting user notifies the current computer user. If you are still designing your file, please do so on another computer. Artastic (another PC upstairs) in the Crafts Area also has a copy of Adobe Illustrator.
* If someone is waiting in line to use the laser, no active test cut or cut series shall be longer than 1 hour. No jobs will be allowed to start that overrun the 1 hour time limit when a new user is waiting.
* In the case that your last cut is longer than the 1 hour time limit, and a waiting user presents themselves after the cut has started, the cut job shall be allowed to finish and the waiting user will be allowed to set up their file in their own user account, during the cutting period.
* Continuous cutting shall not exceed 3 consecutive hours without a half hour break for the laser to cool. If a new user arrives before or during the cooling period the current user shall cede the laser to the next user, and the next user will wait for the cooling period to finish and the cooling period shall not count towards the 1 hours limit should another user present themselves.
* Waiting users shall notify the current user verbally that they are waiting and where they will be waiting until it is their turn. If multiple users are waiting, the next waiting user must start their test cutting or cut job within 10 minutes of being notified of a laser opening. The current user will keep a record of who is waiting, where they will be, and notify subsequent users of the status of the queue. The current user will find the next waiting user and verbally inform them that the laser is available.

== Authorizations ==

How to get authorized: contact the CNC Area Host or one of the Volunteer Authorizers. There's a sign posted in the CNC area that has names of people that are laser authorizers.

Since demand fluctuates, and there are a random group of new and old members that want to be authorized at any one time, it makes sense to find the others and figure out your group schedule/plan. There generally is NOT going to be a calendar-based or widely publicized meetup event; you will have to conctact and make arrangements with actual people, at least until the Canvas Learning Management System is implemented more fully. http://canvas.pumpingstationone.org

=== Preparing yourself to become authorized ===

You need a few things to optimize and expedite your experience:

* 1. Know what you're doing as best as you can - come pre-trained on your own time to make the authorization go smoother and faster.
* 2. Have a PS1 username set up before starting the authorization http://members.pumpingstationone.org
* 3. Have some familiarity with the kinds of files you would bring to the Boss to cut.

To that end; you could download and become familiar a bit with RDWorks, the software you will use to drive the Boss. Links are on this page.

The BOSS LS-3655 is an industrial CO2 laser engraver with a 36" x 55" bed, supporting over-sized material pass-thru on four sides and up to 7 inches of table depth. Originally shipped with 100W tube, but that has been replaced with 150W tube in May, 2017.

* (2017/05/20) 150W Tube & Power Supply installed. Alignment & focusing pending.

== Usage Policy ==

The laser cutter is easily one of the most used machines at PS1. Due to this demand we request the cooperation of all members to share the laser cutter and associated computer. First and foremost, the practice "being excellent" should be observed at all times; respect yourself, other members, and the equipment. This is a usage policy so that everyone can use the laser:

* Any user not actively test cutting or cutting will cede the computer and laser to the next person waiting in line, as soon as that waiting user notifies the current computer user. If you are still designing your file, please do so on another computer. Artastic (another PC upstairs) in the Crafts Area also has a copy of Adobe Illustrator.
* If someone is waiting in line to use the laser, no active test cut or cut series shall be longer than 1 hour. No jobs will be allowed to start that overrun the 1 hour time limit when a new user is waiting.
* In the case that your last cut is longer than the 1 hour time limit, and a waiting user presents themselves after the cut has started, the cut job shall be allowed to finish and the waiting user will be allowed to set up their file in their own user account, during the cutting period.
* Continuous cutting shall not exceed 3 consecutive hours without a half hour break for the laser to cool. If a new user arrives before or during the cooling period the current user shall cede the laser to the next user, and the next user will wait for the cooling period to finish and the cooling period shall not count towards the 1 hours limit should another user present themselves.
* Waiting users shall notify the current user verbally that they are waiting and where they will be waiting until it is their turn. If multiple users are waiting, the next waiting user must start their test cutting or cut job within 10 minutes of being notified of a laser opening. The current user will keep a record of who is waiting, where they will be, and notify subsequent users of the status of the queue. The current user will find the next waiting user and verbally inform them that the laser is available.

== Authorizations ==

How to get authorized: contact the CNC Area Host or one of the Volunteer Authorizers. There's a sign posted in the CNC area that has names of people that are laser authorizers.

Since demand fluctuates, and there are a random group of new and old members that want to be authorized at any one time, it makes sense to find the others and figure out your group schedule/plan. There generally is NOT going to be a calendar-based or widely publicized meetup event; you will have to conctact and make arrangements with actual people, at least until the Canvas Learning Management System is implemented more fully. http://canvas.pumpingstationone.org

=== Preparing yourself to become authorized ===

You need a few things to optimize and expedite your experience:

* 1. Know what you're doing as best as you can - come pre-trained on your own time to make the authorization go smoother and faster.

The Taz 3 now uses OctoPrint as its host device. You can now send jobs to the printer via any computer in the space, even your personal device. It's a web service, load the URL in a web browser; you don't need to download or install anything.

The OctoPrint server for the Taz 3 can be reached at http://10.100.1.200/

* When connecting to the OctoPrint server, you may first need to select "Connect" under the left side Connection tab if the printer has been turned off.
** All settings to connect are retained and should not be modified. *Since someone CAN modify them, and then nobody else will be able to use it, why don't we put the proper settings here in the wiki so people can fix what's wrong?
* Once the printer is connected, you can begin warming it up with the Temperature tab.
** Enter a temperature in Celsius and click "Set"
* You can control the printer's movements and extrusion using the "Control" tab.

* To get started printing, upload an STL using the left side "Files" tab.
* Find the STL you uploaded and click the "Slice" button, it looks like a magic wand.

*If you can't connect on COM5, you may need to reboot the PC, because another user is still logged in after they connected on COM5. If a reboot doesn't resolve the "Connect" problem, then shut the PC down, unplug the unit's power cord, and restarting the machine. This has has fixed the problem as of 3/19/17 - first time I've had the COM5 problem for a while.
*Make sure baud rate is set to 115200
*Make sure protocol is set to Autodetect
*In Repetier Host, home the machine to get full motion on the axes
*In Simplify3D, if you are asking for login information just close the box with the X button and the program will launch.

== Suggested Settings ==

Both of these files have appropriate settings for the 'printer settings' and 'filament settings' tabs. To use them, go to File > Load Config in Slic3r and select the downloaded file. You must then go to each tab and hit the 'save' icon next to the settings selection dropdown box, or else Slic3r will forget the settings when you close it.

For settings in Simplify3D, you need to 'import FFF profile'. This can be found under File/Import FFF Profile, then browse your computer to find it.

1/1/2018 - This machine has been upgraded and is now listed as a different machine, one of the Prusa i3 Mk2S 3D printers. Which one is it, A or B? I don't know and it doesn't seem to matter much.

4/24/2017 - Printer bed connector is failing, could be failing print bed causing excess current draw; install solid state relay and if problem persist replace with silicone heater bed. Uneven extrusion or slippage, possible problem with the hobbed bolt; brass and is going bad; Should be replaced with stainless steel one. (ajasani)

Essentially "a hot melt glue gun for metals". It releases 75% argon / 25% CO2 gas as you weld to prevent oxidation of the metal. You're melting the metals you're joining, and adding a bead as well.

== About ==

The BOSS LS-3655 is an industrial CO2 laser engraver with a 36" x 55" bed, supporting over-sized material pass-thru on four sides and up to 7 inches of table depth. Originally shipped with 100W tube, but that has been replaced with 150W tube in May, 2017.

== Status ==

* (2018/02/26) Working. Z-Axis motor having some issues? 2-25-2018
* (2017/05/20) 150W Tube & Power Supply installed. Alignment & focusing pending.
* (2017/06/12) The laser has been aligned and focused. 2" Laser lens focal depth set to 5.1mm.

== Usage Policy ==

The laser cutter is easily one of the most used machines at PS1. Due to this demand we request the cooperation of all members to share the laser cutter and associated computer. First and foremost, the practice "being excellent" should be observed at all times; respect yourself, other members, and the equipment. This is a usage policy so that everyone can use the laser:

* Any user not actively test cutting or cutting will cede the computer and laser to the next person waiting in line, as soon as that waiting user notifies the current computer user. If you are still designing your file, please do so on another computer. Artastic (another PC upstairs) in the Crafts Area also has a copy of Adobe Illustrator.
* If someone is waiting in line to use the laser, no active test cut or cut series shall be longer than 1 hour. No jobs will be allowed to start that overrun the 1 hour time limit when a new user is waiting.
* In the case that your last cut is longer than the 1 hour time limit, and a waiting user presents themselves after the cut has started, the cut job shall be allowed to finish and the waiting user will be allowed to set up their file in their own user account, during the cutting period.
* Continuous cutting shall not exceed 3 consecutive hours without a half hour break for the laser to cool. If a new user arrives before or during the cooling period the current user shall cede the laser to the next user, and the next user will wait for the cooling period to finish and the cooling period shall not count towards the 1 hours limit should another user present themselves.
* Waiting users shall notify the current user verbally that they are waiting and where they will be waiting until it is their turn. If multiple users are waiting, the next waiting user must start their test cutting or cut job within 10 minutes of being notified of a laser opening. The current user will keep a record of who is waiting, where they will be, and notify subsequent users of the status of the queue. The current user will find the next waiting user and verbally inform them that the laser is available.

== Authorizations ==

How to get authorized: contact the CNC Area Host or one of the Volunteer Authorizers. There's a sign posted in the CNC area that has names of people that are laser authorizers.

Since demand fluctuates, and there are a random group of new and old members that want to be authorized at any one time, it makes sense to find the others and figure out your group schedule/plan. There generally is NOT going to be a calendar-based or widely publicized meetup event; you will have to conctact and make arrangements with actual people, at least until the Canvas Learning Management System is implemented more fully. http://canvas.pumpingstationone.org

=== Preparing yourself to become authorized ===

You need a few things to optimize and expedite your experience:

* 1. Know what you're doing as best as you can - come pre-trained on your own time to make the authorization go smoother and faster.
* 2. Have a PS1 username set up before starting the authorization http://members.pumpingstationone.org
* 3. Have some familiarity with the kinds of files you would bring to the Boss to cut.

To that end; you could download and become familiar a bit with RDWorks, the software you will use to drive the Boss. Links are on this page.
You can read a bit of the manual, which is also linked on this page, or watch some YouTube videos.

To set up a PS1 username (this is NOT the email address you use, it's a different thing, it's entirely special to PS1) go to http://members.pumpingstationone.org, and click "Activate" ... if you don't already have a PS1 username.

You will want to bring files in from Adobe Illustrator in Illustrator format, with lines set to have SOME sort of stroke, I'd recommend 1 point stroke, and some simple color applied to the stroke for each "layer" you want to have in RDWorks. You will want to have one color/layer assigned for each type or strength of cut/engrave you'll be doing in that job. For instance, you might want a deep engraving, a shallow engraving, a cut that goes all the way through the material and maybe a cut that just barely touches the top surface (called a 'kiss cut) and that would mean you would need four distinct colors of stroke used in your file. You should investigate the usefullness of SVG, DXF and DWG files as well, but Illustrator files will give you the best first experiences.

Authorizations will be limited to small groups, e.g. 4 or less, due to nature of the equipment.

== About ==

The BOSS LS-3655 is an industrial CO2 laser engraver with a 36" x 55" bed, supporting over-sized material pass-thru on four sides and up to 7 inches of table depth. Originally shipped with 100W tube, but that has been replaced with 150W tube in May, 2017.

== Status ==

* (2018/02/26) Working. Z-Axis motor having some issues? 2-25-2018
* (2017/05/20) 150W Tube & Power Supply installed. Alignment & focusing pending.
* (2017/06/12) The laser has been aligned and focused. 2" Laser lens focal depth set to 5.1mm.

== Usage Policy ==

The laser cutter is easily one of the most used machines at PS1. Due to this demand we request the cooperation of all members to share the laser cutter and associated computer. First and foremost, the practice "being excellent" should be observed at all times; respect yourself, other members, and the equipment. This is a usage policy so that everyone can use the laser:

* Any user not actively test cutting or cutting will cede the computer and laser to the next person waiting in line, as soon as that waiting user notifies the current computer user. If you are still designing your file, please do so on another computer. Artastic (another PC upstairs) in the Crafts Area also has a copy of Adobe Illustrator.
* If someone is waiting in line to use the laser, no active test cut or cut series shall be longer than 1 hour. No jobs will be allowed to start that overrun the 1 hour time limit when a new user is waiting.
* In the case that your last cut is longer than the 1 hour time limit, and a waiting user presents themselves after the cut has started, the cut job shall be allowed to finish and the waiting user will be allowed to set up their file in their own user account, during the cutting period.
* Continuous cutting shall not exceed 3 consecutive hours without a half hour break for the laser to cool. If a new user arrives before or during the cooling period the current user shall cede the laser to the next user, and the next user will wait for the cooling period to finish and the cooling period shall not count towards the 1 hours limit should another user present themselves.
* Waiting users shall notify the current user verbally that they are waiting and where they will be waiting until it is their turn. If multiple users are waiting, the next waiting user must start their test cutting or cut job within 10 minutes of being notified of a laser opening. The current user will keep a record of who is waiting, where they will be, and notify subsequent users of the status of the queue. The current user will find the next waiting user and verbally inform them that the laser is available.

== Authorizations ==

How to get authorized: contact the CNC Area Host or one of the Volunteer Authorizers. There's a sign posted in the CNC area that has names of people that are laser authorizers.

Since demand fluctuates, and there are a random group of new and old members that want to be authorized at any one time, it makes sense to find the others and figure out your group schedule/plan. There generally is NOT going to be a calendar-based or widely publicized meetup event; you will have to conctact and make arrangements with actual people, at least until the Canvas Learning Management System is implemented more fully. http://canvas.pumpingstationone.org

=== Preparing yourself to become authorized ===

You need a few things to optimize and expedite your experience:

* 1. Know what you're doing as best as you can - come pre-trained on your own time to make the authorization go smoother and faster.
* 2. Have a PS1 username set up before starting the authorization http://members.pumpingstationone.org
* 3. Have some familiarity with the kinds of files you would bring to the Boss to cut.

To that end; you could download and become familiar a bit with RDWorks, the software you will use to drive the Boss. Links are on this page.
You can read a bit of the manual, which is also linked on this page, or watch some YouTube videos.

To set up a PS1 username (this is NOT the email address you use, it's a different thing, it's entirely special to PS1) go to http://members.pumpingstationone.org, and click "Activate" ... if you don't already have a PS1 username.

You will want to bring files in from Adobe Illustrator in Illustrator format, with lines set to have SOME sort of stroke, I'd recommend 1 point stroke, and some simple color applied to the stroke for each "layer" you want to have in RDWorks. You will want to have one color/layer assigned for each type or strength of cut/engrave you'll be doing in that job. For instance, you might want a deep engraving, a shallow engraving, a cut that goes all the way through the material and maybe a cut that just barely touches the top surface (called a 'kiss cut) and that would mean you would need four distinct colors of stroke used in your file. You should investigate the usefullness of SVG, DXF and DWG files as well, but Illustrator files will give you the best first experiences.

Authorizations will be limited to small groups, e.g. 4 or less, due to nature of the equipment.

==Maintenance==
Per the [[:file:Craftsman20 drill manual.pdf|user manual]], the drill should be periodically cleaned of dust, the table wiped with wax to prevent rust, and (if needed) the quill lubricated with a dry lubricant like silicone or graphite. Users should perform this maintenance as the drill is used, and PS1 should inspect the drill monthly.

===Maintenance history===

* '''July 10, 2017.''' Drill press motor is not fully connected. Belt may be rubbing on the housing.
* '''July 14, 2017.''' One of the two posts that adjusts the motor position is missing its nut. Also, there is a rack-and-pinion lever that moves the motor in and out, and one of the posts had skipped a tooth. I worked it back into position, and I believe it is now safe to use, despite the missing nut. Replacing the nut will require removing the motor, which is a two-person job.
* '''July 18, 2017.''' This is fixed now. For the record, the missing nut was M12-1.75. I put some "purple" locktite on both nuts, so hopefully we won't have to take it apart again.
