Some authorizations are regularly scheduled while others are scheduled on-demand. To schedule an on-demand authorization, members may post in the relevant [[Discord]] channel, or contact a volunteer authorizer directly. Contact information for all current volunteer authorizers can be found at [[Volunteer Positions]].

Note that authorizations requiring a Canvas course, only show you the schedule after you complete the course. Even then sometimes (especially Woodshop) the authorizations are booked up for that month.

The organization critically depends on our area hosts and the quality of your service is a major factor in the experience of our members and the overall atmosphere of the space. The following are the duties and expectations of your area host position:

* You are an ambassador of the space. We expect you to make yourself familiar with and abide by our policies and to hold yourself to the highest standards of being excellent to others. Your behavior sets an example for the entire membership.
* Explain and lead TidySpace policy for your area.
* Prior to authorizing anyone on any equipment, ask about membership, ID check by two board members and liability waiver. Do not authorize anyone who hasn’t completed all three.
* If you authorize a non-member to use tools per section (i) of https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Authorization_Policy that person must fill out a volunteer agreement form. The form must be signed by you as well as the non-member. This form must be sent to info@pumpingstationone.org prior to any non-member tool use. (This is for insurance reasons. A link to this form will be provided when it is complete.)

== About ==

3D SLA Printer. Requires a proprietary resin, a short-lived tank, and a relatively longer-lived build plate to function. The requirement to buy your own tank and resin makes this printer less suitable as a first 3D printing experience for most members, though the printed parts have properties that may be desirable such as use as patterns for metal casting, transparency/translucency of some resin types, and comparatively high resolution and smoothness of printed parts.
Compared to the PLA and ABS filament of PS1's other printers, the liquid resin is more difficult to handle, must be kept away from light when not in use, and is quite sticky. Cleanup and setup is significantly more difficult than with filament-based printers. Parts must be washed with alcohol in a two-step process, and benefit from being cured in a UV light environment. The proprietary software is free and downloadable (see below) but is fairly simple to use by someone with basic 3D printing experience. Parts are generally printed elevated away from the build plate and at an angle to the build plate, rather than flat on as they might be with an FDM (filament-based) printer. Support structure is added by the proprietary software.

== Status ==

* 18-Feb-2019 Formlabs no longer supports the Form 1+ printer. Both PS1 printers work, and experimentation is ongoing to find alternate resins/settings/tanks to print with.
* Currently, there are (2) Z-vat tanks http://www-zvatindustries-com at PS1. One is installed in premiumphyra.

* The main limitation to new users is that both the tank and the resin are considered consumables, that you must provide for yourself. "One standard tank lasts for about 2 L of our resin. With a separate tank for each individual resin color, switching materials is as easy as sliding in a new tank."

== Rules ==

===Clean Up===
* Please allot time for your project to clean up after yourselves. Throw away scrap, and store usable materials in the file cabinet.
* Empty Laser Engraver catch trays.
* Please return all tools from where you found them.
* Empty the trash when it is full

===Conserving Energy===
* Turn off the exhaust after a project. Do not cycle the exhaust rapidly.
* Turn off the Lights and A/C at the end of the day.
* Turn off 3D printers when prints are done.

===Storage===
* There is absolutely no member storage in the CNC area. Please clean up all projects when you are done. Left over projects without any documentation will be thrown away.

== Safety ==

Lasers are known to cause fire. If you leave your laser unattended, anyone else SHOULD halt or cancel it immediately, no questions asked, no excuses. DO not pass go, do not collect $200, go to laser jail.
Lasers are more liable to cause fire if the material is too thick, has air pockets in it (like multi-layer cardboard)
Lasers can cause toxic fumes if they are used with unsafe materials. There's a page of safe and unsafe materials linked from each laser's wiki page, and that is covered in authorizations.
There is one halon fire extinguisher in the CNC room that is first choice for putting out fires associated with the laser cutters.
As long as the lids are closed, you do not need to wear additional protective eye wear to operate the lasers.
Don't mess with the safety interlocks that detect if the lid is closed.
Do not ever laser humans or animals.

== Supplies ==

Supplies are generally not provided. There are some PS1-owned bits in the drawer for the ShopBot, but you may wish to purchase your own bits if you want to be confident that you'll have a good, sharp bit of the appropriate size for your project. If you break a shop-owned bit, please tell the area host and post a note to the wiki and Google group.

There is often some common-use filament available for the TAZ3, AO-100 or Replicator 3D printers, but you may also used your own if you want to be confident that you'll have enough high-quality filament for your project. Filament can be purchased at MicroCenter and other retailers for about $20 per spool. Filament can be purchased for the Cube printer for about $100 per cartridge.

All machines, including the large format printers, should have information about their consumables listed on their respective wiki page.

There is a donation box next to the Cube printer for filament; suggested donation for Cube filament is 30 cents per gram.

A higher scholarship applicant count in recent years has created a backlog of applicants primarily due to the swelling membership numbers while the scholarship seat count has remained at a static 15 seats. This is a vote to update the Scholarship policy to a manage a dynamic number of seats (5% of the paying membership count) that rotate on a 12 month basis by a new Scholarship Team. The proposed changes and new team will allow for more a more structured and equitable selection process, as well as more time for recipients to leverage space resources for skill development. Overall these changes aim to better serve our mission of creating an inclusive and accessible makerspace that reflects and enriches our diverse community. The updated policy aims to allocate scholarships based on a weighted criteria system that prioritizes both economic need and community representation. Scholarship applications are reviewed by a Scholarship Team before being submitted to the Board for approval no later than the last day of February. Once approved by the Board, recipients are given Pumping Station One access at no cost until the last day of February on the following year, providing a 12 month scholarship term to the recipient. * Contact info@pumpingstationone.org with your desired locker location to have your membership upgraded to “Member with Storage”. The upgrade will be visible in your Wild Apricot membership portal. A storage locker is an additional $30 monthly.
* Once assigned a locker, write your full name, or the email address attached to your membership account, LEGIBLY on a piece of tape and stick it to your locker.

You should use the same name or email address here that you have listed on [https://membership.pumpingstationone.org the members site] so that we can verify your membership status. This will help you avoid your storage space getting ticketed and you having to do something about it later.
