{{#lst:How Do I Get Authorized?|authmantra}}
Some authorizations are regularly scheduled while others are scheduled on-demand. To schedule an on-demand authorization, members may post in the relevant [[Discord]] channel, or contact a volunteer authorizer directly. Contact information for all current volunteer authorizers can be found at [[Volunteer Positions]].

Note that authorizations requiring a Canvas course, only show you the schedule after you complete the course. Even then sometimes (especially Woodshop) the authorizations are booked up for that month.

=== I am a member looking to get authorized for a tool! ===
Here's how to find out how to get authorized:

<!-- Mediawiki does a poor job of continuing numbers, hence the following HTML -->
<ol><li> '''Read''' [[How Do I Get Authorized?]]
<li> '''Find''' the authorization info in one of these ways:
<ul><li> Scan the QR on the "Authorization Required" sticker on the tool, see example above
<li> Search for the tool's wiki page
<li> Or look through the list on this page
</ul>
<li>'''Follow the instructions in the blue authorization notice box''', see example below
<ul><li> If the blue authorization notice box is missing, ask on [[Discord]] for confirmation the instructions on the page are still accurate</li></ul>
<li> '''Complete the authorization'''
<li> Required: '''Make something cool!'''
</ol>

Information for all authorizations will be maintained in this [[Authorizations]] page, and individual tool pages (or wherever else) can link back here. This creates one simple place to go and manage information regarding an auth without having to hunt down the individual tool or content on multiple pages.

Copy the example in [[Template:ToolAuthorization]] and paste it into this [[Authorizations]] page under the correct area/section, then fill out the needed fields. Once the page saves, above the filled out template there will be a <code><nowiki>{{#lst:Authorizations|authid}}</nowiki></code> code snippet specific for that filled out auth. Copy and paste this snippet into the tools page that requires the authorization. If you later need to update the auth information, return to this page and edit it here.
== Area Host Expectations ==
The organization critically depends on our area hosts and the quality of your service is a major factor in the experience of our members and the overall atmosphere of the space. The following are the duties and expectations of your area host position:

=== In general ===
* You are an ambassador of the space. We expect you to make yourself familiar with and abide by our policies and to hold yourself to the highest standards of being excellent to others. Your behavior sets an example for the entire membership.
* Explain and lead TidySpace policy for your area.
* Prior to authorizing anyone on any equipment, ask about membership, ID check by two board members and liability waiver. Do not authorize anyone who hasn’t completed all three.
* If you authorize a non-member to use tools per section (i) of https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Authorization_Policy that person must fill out a volunteer agreement form. The form must be signed by you as well as the non-member. This form must be sent to info@pumpingstationone.org prior to any non-member tool use. (This is for insurance reasons. A link to this form will be provided when it is complete.)

=== For the area ===
* Post contact information for yourself and the area volunteers.
* Set rules and authorization processes and document them on the area wiki page.
* Establish a TidySpace Wut Zone for your area
* Provide TidySpace parking tickets (yellow, red and green)
* Post the rules or a link to the rules or a link to the rules in the area. They should include the following:
** Safety rules.
** How and where for material and project storage.

=== Duties ===
* Ensure a clean and safe workspace.
* Expedite tool maintenance and repair when necessary.
* Facilitate the authorization process, working closely with volunteer authorizers.
* Label, document and organize tools and available equipment.
* Report area needs and concerns to the board.
* Post all receipts to info@pumpingstationone.org within 30 days.
* Maintain an up to date record of area spending.
* Keep the area wiki page up to date.

=== What you can expect from the board ===
* We will take your concerns seriously and will work with you to try and resolve them.
* We will consider creating a temporary replacement position if you need to be absent for an extended period of time.
* We will work with you to make sure you have the volunteer authorizer help the area needs.
* We will seek your input when we are considering making changes to volunteer authorizer positions in your area.
* We will strive to promptly process reimbursements and refilling of Pex cards upon receiving proper documentation.

== About ==

3D SLA Printer. Requires a proprietary resin, a short-lived tank, and a relatively longer-lived build plate to function. The requirement to buy your own tank and resin makes this printer less suitable as a first 3D printing experience for most members, though the printed parts have properties that may be desirable such as use as patterns for metal casting, transparency/translucency of some resin types, and comparatively high resolution and smoothness of printed parts.
Compared to the PLA and ABS filament of PS1's other printers, the liquid resin is more difficult to handle, must be kept away from light when not in use, and is quite sticky. Cleanup and setup is significantly more difficult than with filament-based printers. Parts must be washed with alcohol in a two-step process, and benefit from being cured in a UV light environment. The proprietary software is free and downloadable (see below) but is fairly simple to use by someone with basic 3D printing experience. Parts are generally printed elevated away from the build plate and at an angle to the build plate, rather than flat on as they might be with an FDM (filament-based) printer. Support structure is added by the proprietary software.

* Darker housing: premiumephyra, firmware 1.40, git: 157923
* Lighter housing: sillyred,

== Status ==

* 18-Feb-2019 Formlabs no longer supports the Form 1+ printer. Both PS1 printers work, and experimentation is ongoing to find alternate resins/settings/tanks to print with.
* Currently, there are (2) Z-vat tanks http://www-zvatindustries-com at PS1. One is installed in premiumphyra.

* The main limitation to new users is that both the tank and the resin are considered consumables, that you must provide for yourself. "One standard tank lasts for about 2 L of our resin. With a separate tank for each individual resin color, switching materials is as easy as sliding in a new tank."

== Authorizations ==

* You should familiarize yourself with the PreForm software and have some small parts that you've loaded into PreForm, available to print as your first parts.
* Once you have secured the basic supplies, contact a member of the Danger Committee (see below), the CNC Area Host or a CNC area Volunteer Authorizer to become authorized.

== Settings ==
* PreForm is available for both Windows and MacOS PreForm is supported on Mac OS X 10.7 or higher.
* Required software, called Preform, is proprietary and available, free, from FormLabs https://support.formlabs.com/hc/en-us/categories/115000005384-Software

== Rules ==

===Clean Up===
* Please allot time for your project to clean up after yourselves. Throw away scrap, and store usable materials in the file cabinet.
* Empty Laser Engraver catch trays.
* Please return all tools from where you found them.
* Empty the trash when it is full

===Conserving Energy===
* Turn off the exhaust after a project. Do not cycle the exhaust rapidly.
* Turn off the Lights and A/C at the end of the day.
* Turn off 3D printers when prints are done.

===Storage===
* There is absolutely no member storage in the CNC area. Please clean up all projects when you are done. Left over projects without any documentation will be thrown away.

== Safety ==

Lasers are known to cause fire. If you leave your laser unattended, anyone else SHOULD halt or cancel it immediately, no questions asked, no excuses. DO not pass go, do not collect $200, go to laser jail.
Lasers are more liable to cause fire if the material is too thick, has air pockets in it (like multi-layer cardboard)
Lasers can cause toxic fumes if they are used with unsafe materials. There's a page of safe and unsafe materials linked from each laser's wiki page, and that is covered in authorizations.
There is one halon fire extinguisher in the CNC room that is first choice for putting out fires associated with the laser cutters.
As long as the lids are closed, you do not need to wear additional protective eye wear to operate the lasers.
Don't mess with the safety interlocks that detect if the lid is closed.
Do not ever laser humans or animals.

== Tools Available ==

There is an automatically built list of CNC-tagged equipment at the bottom of this page. If a thing does not show up on the automatically populated list, please edit that equipment's wiki page to make it happen.

===Fused Filament Fabrication===

* [[Prusa i3 MK3S A 3D Printer]] - There are three of these, and they're among the best 3D printers right now, since they have automatic bed-leveling technology. Direct drive printing, filament sensor.
* [[Prusa i3 MK2S A 3D Printer]] - There is one of these. Older version of MK3S (Not in service)
* [[Creality Ender 3 A 3D Printer]] - There are two of these. Manual bed leveling. Capable of excellent prints.

* [[MakerBot Replicator]] - Removed from the space? Gone? At the best it's offline, broken, not usable unless you like tinkering.
* Jellybox - New to PS1, broken at the moment (needs a hot-end repair) and skimpy wiki page https://wiki.pumpingstationone.org/Jellybox
* [[LulzBot 3D Printer|LulzBot AO-100 3D printer]] - Larger volume. Works. Regular extruder cannot do flexible filament. Flexistruder needs a firmware update to use, then you have to change the firmware back to use regular filament, which is lame but ... maybe that can be fixed/updated someday.
* [[Lulzbot Taz3|Lulzbot TAZ3 3D printer]]
* [[3dSystems CubePro|3dSystems CubeProTrio 3D printer]] - Usable, but has a weird history of using proprietary filament so then we hacked it so that it can use any old filament but ... read the CubePro wiki page, the backstory is needed if you intend to use it.

===StereoLithography Additive Manufacturing===
* [[Formlabs Form 3 SLA Printer]] - Stereolithography-type printer, resin-based. Active machine

* [[Cubify Sense 3d Scanner]] - Hacked to use non-proprietary filament but has never been quite as good since the hack.
* [[Matter and Form 3D Scanner]] - Mostly sucks. Count on it taking an hour to scan a medium sized thing, too. Really, really sucks.
== Supplies ==

Supplies are generally not provided. There are some PS1-owned bits in the drawer for the ShopBot, but you may wish to purchase your own bits if you want to be confident that you'll have a good, sharp bit of the appropriate size for your project. If you break a shop-owned bit, please tell the area host and post a note to the wiki and Google group.

There is often some common-use filament available for the TAZ3, AO-100 or Replicator 3D printers, but you may also used your own if you want to be confident that you'll have enough high-quality filament for your project. Filament can be purchased at MicroCenter and other retailers for about $20 per spool. Filament can be purchased for the Cube printer for about $100 per cartridge.

All machines, including the large format printers, should have information about their consumables listed on their respective wiki page.

There is a donation box next to the Cube printer for filament; suggested donation for Cube filament is 30 cents per gram.

== Authorization ==

Authorization for the '''[[Shopbot_PRS_CNC_router]]''' will appear as a [https://www.meetup.com/Pumping-Station-One Meetup event], and on the [http://pumpingstationone.org/events/ PS1 event calendar].

Authorization for other equipment varies, the policy may be listed on the tool's own wiki page. Some authorization events may be listed as Meetup events, Signup.com events, on the PS1 event calendar (which is mirrored on the PS1 web site "Events" page) or may be announced on the PS1 Google Group (generally the private one, not the public one).

For authorization for the Laser Cutters, please email laser-auths@pumpingstationone.org.

To be able to log in on the lasers or ShopBot PCs you must have your member login account modified by a member who has admin privileges. Once you are authorized, you will use the same username and password you would use on any other PS1 computer.

'''TBD'''

== Background ==
A higher scholarship applicant count in recent years has created a backlog of applicants primarily due to the swelling membership numbers while the scholarship seat count has remained at a static 15 seats. This is a vote to update the Scholarship policy to a manage a dynamic number of seats (5% of the paying membership count) that rotate on a 12 month basis by a new Scholarship Team. The proposed changes and new team will allow for more a more structured and equitable selection process, as well as more time for recipients to leverage space resources for skill development. Overall these changes aim to better serve our mission of creating an inclusive and accessible makerspace that reflects and enriches our diverse community. The updated policy aims to allocate scholarships based on a weighted criteria system that prioritizes both economic need and community representation. Additionally, it introduces provisions for storage access and workshop participation to ensure recipients can fully engage with PS1's resources and community.

== Language of the Vote ==
Replace the existing [[Scholarships & Work in Lieu of Dues|Scholarship Policy]] with the following new language.

=== 2025 Scholarship Policy ===

==== Scholarship Application Process ====
'''To apply for a Pumping Station: One scholarship, please follow the link to fill out our [https://tinyurl.com/y3dc3fnx application form].'''

A clear disclaimer about the applicant's anonymity will be included in applications. Applications will be anonymized for final Board review and approval. Scholarship applications are reviewed by a Scholarship Team before being submitted to the Board for approval no later than the last day of February. Once approved by the Board, recipients are given Pumping Station One access at no cost until the last day of February on the following year, providing a 12 month scholarship term to the recipient. Notices of scholarship award are sent to selected candidates within the first week of March. Selected scholarship recipients will have 2 weeks to accept or request to defer their scholarship. The scholarship will terminate at the end of the last day of the following February. Applications will be dropped if not selected (requiring yearly re-application). Aside from financial dues, scholarship recipients are held to all of the same expectations as active members, and are subject to all of the same repercussions for violating space rules.

==== Scholarship Team Structure ====
A dedicated Scholarship Team will be established, consisting of:
* One Board member or Director at Large
* One member of MMT (Member Management Team)
* At least one Equity Analyst (member or volunteer)
* One frequent member with no other volunteer associations
* One other of any of the above positions to assure no deadlocks

==== Scholarship Allocation ====
The total number of approved scholarships will be a dynamic seat count capped at 5% of total paying membership based on a snapshot taken at the beginning of December. This provides the Scholarship Team roughly two months to finalize scholarship selections and gain Board approval based on the determined number of available seats.
==== Selection Criteria ====
Applications will be evaluated using a weighted point system that considers both economic need and barriers to access, as maintained and enforced by the Scholarship Team.

==== Storage and Resource Access ====
* Scholarship recipients are exempt from paid class fees. Should a member run a class that requires a material cost, that member will be responsible for adjusting the class structure to accommodate a scholarship recipient attendee. The Scholarship Team will be available as a resource for said member to help adjust the class structure accordingly.
* Recipients may opt in to free storage space, with the option to share with other recipients.
* In extreme circumstances or at the Scholarship Team's or Board's discretion, recipients may be required to share storage space to better accommodate paying members and volunteers, or to otherwise maximize space efficiently.
== Authorizers ==
''Main article: [[Volunteer Authorizer]]''

Getting authorized on tools can be tough. Sometimes it's hard for new members to figure out how to get authorized, sometimes classes fill up in hours, sometimes classes aren't scheduled regularly. We want to fix that. The Board has created the following Volunteer Positions. We need a few members to step up and offer their time to get people authorized.

To Aquire a Shelf or Locker

* Contact info@pumpingstationone.org with your desired locker location to have your membership upgraded to “Member with Storage”. The upgrade will be visible in your Wild Apricot membership portal. A storage locker is an additional $30 monthly.
* Once assigned a locker, write your full name, or the email address attached to your membership account, LEGIBLY on a piece of tape and stick it to your locker.

You should use the same name or email address here that you have listed on [https://membership.pumpingstationone.org the members site] so that we can verify your membership status. This will help you avoid your storage space getting ticketed and you having to do something about it later.
== Catwalk Shelf Registry ==

''' -Alpha Alpha designations refer to mini shelves used for PS1 official projects '''

The catwalk is where some of our [[member leased server Systems]] infrastructure are located. Additionally, member shelves are on the catwalk.

'''Please do not store items on the catwalk, except on member shelves. Loose items will be ticketed'''

On the catwalk, numbering starts with the upper left shelf and goes down, then across.
